FUNdraising for a Cause

Raising money one mile, one video, one sheep puppet at a time.

  • This project started in 2017 with the goal of building camaraderie at Legal Services of New Jersey. Outside of work hours, I organized a team of runners to participate in a 5K to benefit the New Jersey Institute for Disabilities. To encourage donations I set a challenge: If we raised $500, I’d run the race with a sheep puppet on my hand. After leaving LSNJ I continued to run and raise money with Shelly Sheep.

So far I’ve produced seven videos and run five races with Shelly, totaling 25.5 miles.

  • For each campaign I develop one or two promotional videos, as well as personalized digital “Thank Ewe” cards for those who donate to the cause.

Each year I set a personal challenge, giving myself 24 hours to create a video from scratch. Below are the usually amateurish, occasionally funny results.

Virtual Perfection.

Through all the complexities and stress of the 2020 lockdown, Shelly found herself longing for 8-bit simplicity.

Shelly 13.1.

As Shelly trained for her first half marathon, she looked to luxury car commercials for fundraising inspiration.

Train hard. Eat right. Shelly shares one of her favorite recipes for peak performance.

It’s personal.

In 2017 we learned what drove Shelly to train—and excel—as a human-propelled sheep puppet.

How it all started.

This is the video that started it all. Follow along as Shelly trains for her first 5K.

An 8-bit design of a sheep. Image reads "Thank Ewe! +1 for your generous gift to help New Jerseyans with disabilities!"
Text on a blue background. Image reads "Thank Ewe! Dear Jeanna and Vinnie, You are awesome! Thank you so much for donating to support New Jerseyans with disabilities! I can't wait to run!"

Thank ewe notes.

Custom graphics add a personal touch to each campaign.
